M35, the brighter and closer of the pair, lies about 2,970 light years away. Its stars shine a brilliant blue-white, young and vibrant — if it’s blue, it’s new! Just beside it sits NGC 2158, a faint, compact cluster roughly 16,000 light years distant. Its stars glow a warm golden hue, ancient and evolved — if it’s gold, it’s old
